It was the last time she ever heard her own name. Frightening mushroom clouds had blocked out the sunlight, and the world as she knew it had disappeared in an instant. The memory of that day stayed with her, even though the very thought of it made her heart ache with longing.

Yet, somehow she had survived.

"A fantasy," she thought, as her eyes scanned the silent valley below. "The word 'survivor' isn't just a fantasy."

She knew her chances of finding anyone alive were slim, but she continued, allowing what little hope she had left to carry her onward.

Ooh, really? Awesome! I love post apocalyptic settings as well... Is it original fic?

Yeah, it's my baby-monster project, you might have heard me bitching about it before. XD There was going to be only one maybe-novel-length story, but with all of my notes for the back story for how everything happened it's now going have a prequel. So now I have two projects.

Wow, that's cool! It never ceases to amuse me how these projects can take on a life of their own.

I've been trying to think in terms of "one novel length" ideas lately, but it never seems to work out that way. I always seem to have way more story (that's relevant, and important to the story as a whole) that I want to tell.

What kind of progress are you making on it?

My current P-A project is an in-progress outline form at the moment. ^_^

Tell me about it; I first thought up the idea about five years ago as I was laying in bed staring at my ceiling. I wrote one page of notes on a spare piece of paper and then set it aside for latter when my art took over my life for awhile, and I forgot all about it. About five months ago I found it again and was then attacked by a million more ideas for it like the rabid animal that it is.

My progress? :glares at the folder on her laptop:

I have a basic outline of the first few chapters, the back-story of the current world the story is set in, info for most of the characters that I've come up with so far, sketches of the same characters(the artist in me couldn't stop itself), and some background stories for some very important items that come into play in the story.

Now all I have to do is finish the outline and then start on the first draft. XD

And that's not even counting all the fanfic projects I have going on as well.

I'm glad you found it then, monster or not. It's awesome that it came back to you after all that time being dormant. Sometimes I lose ideas completely that never return, even when I jot them down.

Progress can be slow, that's pretty normal. For me, I get little to nothing done unless I sit in front of my computer daily or semi-daily and commit to something like "write 1000 words a day, or just sit there listening to music and staring at nothing until you get an idea, or 5-6 hours has passed". That's my level of committment in a nut shell, when actively working.

Just out of curiousity, is this story anything you might post as a WIP to friends or general public, or is it destined to be a top secret project only?

I'm happy I found it too. It was folded-up in another note book of mine in a box under my bed, lying in wait for the right moment to pounce. Cheeky bastard that it is. XD

God, that sounds just like what I end up doing during my 'writing process', five hours later and I only have half a page done if I'm lucky. XD I'm not too worried about how slow it is, but I think I need to buckle down and work on it at least once a week. I should be able to do that. ^^;

I don't really see it as a 'top secret project', if it seems that way it's 'cause I'm still not sure about how many of the ideas I get for it are actually going to stay. As it is there's a lot going on and I my have to scrap some of them; I'll probable end up using them for other projects. But if I do post it anywhere(and I probably will) it would be here on DW.

Yeah, I sometimes have really unproductive days, but at least it's a rarity. It seems like the higher my distraction the worse it is. Like, right now, I need to flesh out a RP character for a tabletop game coming up this saturday, and for the life of me, I can't write anything about the character, because of all the noise in the house. (My roommate, who is normally not much of a talker, is talking about anything and everything right now, while Dave and I are trying to write lol. He's like a cat or something.)

Awesome! I'll look forward to seeing some of it at some point then. XDD

I have a box filled to the brim with them! XD

I know how that is, I'll spend days just reading online and nothing will be going on but when I decide to write or draw suddenly everyone in the world needs my attention. When that happens I just want to punch someone. ^^;

I plan on really working on them on my next day off...if I get one anyway. lol
