Vincent stared at Lucrecia’s flickering computer screen, watching as the stock company picture of his father wavered and became distorted. He couldn't believe what he was seeing, despite the official Shinra seal of approval. His blood ran cold, as unanswered questions filled his heart with dread.

Lucrecia had worked with his father. Why hadn’t she told him?

Footsteps sounded behind him, as a startled Lucrecia gasped in surprise. Her eyes became distant, and her words were so jumbled, that he couldn't understand what she was trying to apologize for.

"I'm sorry," had only begun to lose its meaning.

Indeed. Y_Y If only she could have found a way to mix her career successfully with her life, things may have worked out differently. I can't help but feel sorry for Vincent.

I am going to show how uneducated I am here but who is Lucrecia?

I feel for Vincent in this scene.

Lucrecia is a Shinra scientist who appeared in the original FF7 game and also in Dirge of Cerberus. She's a young woman who worked with Vincent's father, and who had a theory she called the Chaos theory. In working recklessly on her theory, she was responsible for the accident that killed Vincent's father, and at this point in the drabble (their actual history) Vincent doesn't even know she worked with his dad, much less caused his accidental death.

She's also the woman he has a huge crush on, and she turns him down several times (after dating him and leading him on a few times too). Her main excuse is that she feels too guilty about what happened to Vin's father, so she can't bear to look at him without guilt... but I think she's just a bit nuts, and more devoted to her damn science, imho.

Yeah, I feel sorry for him too.

One other important thing to note, that I forgot... is that she's Sephiroth's real biological mother. She chose to allow in vitro jenova cell experiments on herself and child while pregnant, and he was the result.
