Title: Exposed
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Reno, Tseng, (mentions Rufus)
Rating: PG-13 (Language)
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #113 - Bare (for [community profile] ff7_drabbles)

His palms were sweating. Reno couldn't remember the last time he'd been so apprehensive. He put his hands in his trouser pockets, and tried to wipe away the evidence.

"Reno," Tseng said. "Please correct your posture. The Vice President is here."

As he watched the door swing open, Reno blinked with disbelief at his sudden realization. He was afraid that Rufus wouldn't acknowledge him -- that he wouldn't remember the night before. The idea that he might be so easily forgotten weighed heavily on Reno's mind, but even heavier in his heart.

"So much for being a hard-ass," he thought.

Title: Vampire
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Vincent
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #71 - Nightmare (for [community profile] ffvii_100)

"I’m not a vampire," Vincent thought to himself. It wasn’t the first time he’d been called that. Strangers, like the two at the table behind him, often made assumptions about his appearance.

Vincent stood up from the bar and approached them. Their expressions were filled with surprise and guilt.

"You are mistaken," he said, then he turned back to reclaim his seat at the bar.

Suddenly, he saw something that made his mind and heart race with fear. In the mirror behind the bar, he cast no reflection. He covered his mouth with his hand to muffle his inevitable scream.

Title: One Chance
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Reno, (mentions Elena)
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 100
Prompt: #66 - Over (for [community profile] ff7_drabbles)

One chance, that's all I've got: no do-overs. If I fail, and my target is still walking around, well, I might as well forget that raise I was hoping for. Hell, I might not even have a job to go back to. Maybe not even a life to keep living. I guess you could say that failure isn't really an option.

I wait for the signal, as the predetermined time draws near. Elena will be parting the curtains, and then I'll have a clear shot. I'll just pretend that I don't know him; then I'll be sure not to miss.

Title: Not This Time
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Tifa, Vincent
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 100
Prompt: "Character's Children" (for [community profile] ffvii_100 from several weeks ago)
Warnings: Subject of death.
A/N: I finally decided to post this drabble, despite the depressing nature of it. It's a snippet of a larger story idea I have, that is set about five years after Advent Children.

Tifa stood silently in the misting rain, staring at the freshly chiseled gravestone long after the others had left. For some, the marker was a peaceful memorial, but for her, it would only be a constant reminder of her beloved child: the one who would never grow up to be a man. She lingered, trying to find the words that would grant her the strength to carry on, and give meaning to it all.

Day turned to night, but the words never came. She stayed until Vincent finally came to escort her home.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

"It's not your fault."

Title: Stay
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Cloud, Tifa
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: 2 a.m. (for [community profile] ffvii_100)

Just after closing time, he found Tifa sound asleep at the bar, her head resting on folded arms.

"C'mon, let's get you to bed," Cloud said, gently lifting her.

He cradled Tifa in his arms and carried her upstairs, carefully placing her on her bed, and tucking her in. On his way out, he paused as he heard her speak.

"I wish you'd stay," she said, "but, only if you want to." She pulled her blankets back, offering him warmth and companionship. Two things he wouldn't refuse.

"Alright," he said, not wanting to be alone. "It's cold in my room, anyway."

Title: Nostalgia
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Cloud, Vincent, Reno
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Vincent (for [community profile] ff7_drabbles)

"Do you ever miss it, you know, working for Shinra?" Cloud asked, staring at his beer.

Vincent didn't reply immediately, surprised by the question. Instead, he looked directly across the room where Rude and Reno, off duty and still in uniform, were playing cards with two other patrons of the bar. Reno caught his gaze and smiled at him discreetly. It had been a genuine and respectful smile; one that had much more meaning to Vincent than he thought could easily be explained.

"Yes, sometimes," Vincent said. "But..."

"You can never go back," Cloud said, finishing Vincent's sentence. "I know."

Title: Perspective
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Cloud, Tifa
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Damage (for [community profile] ff7_drabbles)

He needed to change everyone's perspective. When he allowed himself to be completely honest, a quiver of nervousness ran through his stomach, because he knew he had his work cut out for him.

The easiest person to start with was Tifa, right?

He stared at her without blinking for far too long, until she noticed his odd behavior. She looked at him with that patronizing, concerned expression that he'd seen a million times on the faces of all his friends.

"Cloud, what's wrong?"

"Nothing."

The silence between them was long and almost completely unbearable.

"I'm not damaged goods... not anymore."

Title: Meaningless
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Vincent, Lucrecia
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Cold (for [community profile] ff7_drabbles)

Vincent stared at Lucrecia’s flickering computer screen, watching as the stock company picture of his father wavered and became distorted. He couldn't believe what he was seeing, despite the official Shinra seal of approval. His blood ran cold, as unanswered questions filled his heart with dread.

Lucrecia had worked with his father. Why hadn’t she told him?

Footsteps sounded behind him, as a startled Lucrecia gasped in surprise. Her eyes became distant, and her words were so jumbled, that he couldn't understand what she was trying to apologize for.

"I'm sorry," had only begun to lose its meaning.

Title: Wasting Time
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Reno, Rude
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Language
Word Count: 100
A/N: Just because. ^_^

"She says, 'You're a Turk,' and I was like, 'Fuck yeah,' no use denying it, right? So, I decided to see if she knew anything about the club he went into. All I had to do was pretend I was into her and she told me everything."

"Fuck," Rude said. "You could have your pick of any woman on the planet, and you’re wasting your time thinking about what our boss is doing without you tonight. That ain’t right."

"C'mon, you know me though. I like Rufus."

"I don’t want to think about it," Rude said.

Title: Proposition
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Reno, Rude
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Opportunity (for [community profile] ff7_drabbles)

"You in or out?"

As Reno considered the proposition, he reached inside his jacket pocket for a cigarette. The bodyguard reacted to Reno's suspicious movements, pulling a gun from his belt, but the bookie made him put the weapon away.

Dropping the cigarette, Reno reached inside his jacket with both hands, swiftly drawing out two pistols, which incited instant panic from the distracted men in front of him. The bodyguard fumbled awkwardly, as Reno opened up on both of them.

"Couldn't wait, I see," Rude said.

Reno smirked, hearing his partner approach. He wasn't known for passing up perfect opportunities.

Title: Midnight Mission
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Rude
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Language
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Secret (for [community profile] ff7_drabbles)

I’m sure it drives him crazy each time I purposely leave out the details. I'm not trying to fuck with him, he just ain't used to not knowing.

In the last two years, I’ve barely spent a minute without him, unless you count time wasted in the bathroom. Don’t get me wrong, Reno’s a great partner, but sometimes I just gotta do things on my own.

The shit's probably gonna hit the fan tonight and I won't have any backup. I'm not worried, but I wish that bastard hadn't been so easy to slip this time.

Title: From the Darkness
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Jenova
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Home (for [community profile] ffvii_100)

The creature is a consuming blackness, inconceivable to even the most scientific minds. Void of compassion and thought, it floats undetected through the cosmos with one instinctual purpose in mind: destruction.

A brilliant comet falls victim to the oppressive, enveloping darkness. All that remains, is a desolate piece of space debris, still continuing on the path destiny has set in motion.

Only now, it harbors a tiny life-form more resilient than any the cognizant universe has ever seen. Safely tucked away, the alien rides its vessel, patiently waiting to be carried to a new home: a planet worthy of annihilation.

Title: A Father's Love
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Barret, Tifa, Marlene
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Bond (for [community profile] ff7_drabbles)

Barret stood silently in the doorway, waiting for his eyes to adjust. He couldn’t see a thing, but he could hear the hushed breathing of his little daughter as she slept, and the creaking of quiet footsteps on the wooden stairs. He felt brief pressure on his upper arm, as warm fingers touched him cautiously.

“She forgot her blanket,” Tifa whispered, draping the tattered cloth over his shoulder. He covered her hand with his and squeezed gently. No words were necessary; he was sure she knew he appreciated the gesture.

"Daddy?"

"Daddy's here, baby," he said, his heart melting.

Title: Retrospect
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
Characters: Reno, Rude
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Photograph (for [community profile] ffvii_100)

In retrospect, it probably wasn’t the best thing he could have said to the old man. After spending over three hours following their quarry around town, Reno had been eager to get the job over with. The guy hadn't looked like a threat, standing there, head bowed, eyes reverently staring at a time-worn photograph that had clearly seen better days.

“It is, in fact, my mother,” he said, glancing up from the photo, before letting it drift to the floor.

The sound of Rude's gun being cocked made Reno pause, but only for a moment.

"Do it," Reno said.
